As mentioned in our post on 3rd November, there is a long list of activities on the digital for public library services agenda, and I wont have time to work on them all. I’m therefore really pleased that the Taskforce has agreed with the Society of Chief Librarians (SCL) that we can recruit another secondee to support me.
We’re recruiting someone to join a group of four secondees – me, Sue and Sharon are already in place. The post will provide opportunities to gain new skills, broaden experience and increase awareness of the national policy landscape in which libraries are firmly placed, working with a wide variety of central government departments, partners, stakeholders and customers.
As a new secondee joining me in the team, the successful applicant will focus on looking at ways to improve digital infrastructure and enhance the workforce’s digital skills. You will be leading on specifically digitally-focussed projects and contribute your expertise and experience in libraries to projects being undertaken by others. You will use your knowledge and skills to help ensure that any developments emerging from the Taskforce are operationally deliverable, achievable and realistic within a local authority/library service context.
Applicants must have demonstrable experience of working in the library or cultural sector and of leading and/or supporting significant successful service transformation and change programmes, and feel very comfortable and confident in dealing with digital, whether the kit, the application, or the expectations and opportunities we can see from the partners we are working with.
As with the other secondees, the secondment is expected to be part time (preferably 3 days a week), though a full-time secondment may be possible. It will start as soon as possible after appointment and will run until the end of March 2016. The successful applicant will remain on their home organisation’s terms and conditions and current pay scale. Reasonable costs of secondment will be refunded (via quarterly invoices to SCL). This will include salary costs (pro rata as necessary) and travel and subsistence costs.
The application process is via email and the deadline is 11am on 3 December.
I’m personally really excited about this opportunity for someone with that proven track record in managing projects, change and transformation to join the team. There is much in this digital arena that is new, positive and very motivational that you will be able to contribute to, and there is also much to learn from this team and this opportunity. I will look forward to welcoming the successful secondee on board.
